Android 8.0(API level 26) the latest version of Android has been launched recently with the intended result. This version of Android also known as Android O (Android oreo). Android 8.0 has features like Picture- in-Picture, Notification dots, Autofill Framework, System Optimization, Background Limits, Webview enhancement etc. All these features have turned the new version of Android into more smarter, faster and powerful for users as well as developers. Android Oreo has many new ways to extend the Android apps and the development has become more efficient.
Glimpse of Android 8.0 features
Picture-in-picture: Users can manage two tasks simultaneously on any size screen, and it’s easy for apps to support it. When an activity is in PIP mode, it is in the paused state, but should continue showing content.
Notification dots: Android 8.0 has come up with Notification dots or badges, on app launcher icons. Notification dots confirm the presence of notifications that the user has not yet dismissed or acted on.
Autofill framework: This Framework facilitates users to set up a new device and synchronize their passwords. Autofill will roll out fully over the next few weeks as part of an update to Google play services.
System optimizations: For better performance system optimization is the must and hence Android O fulfil this need. With this version, apps will run faster and smoother. For this new concurrent compacting garbage collection, code locality and much more added in the run time.
Background limits: The new Android O has limited the background location and wi-fi scans and the way apps running in the background. This restricts overuse of battery and memory while the run of apps.
Downloadable fonts: Android 8.0 and Android Support Library 26 allows to request fonts from a provider application instead of bundling fonts into the APK or letting the APK download fonts. This feature reduces the APK size, increase the app installation success rate and allows multiple apps to share the same font.
Shortcut pinning: Android O will facilitate users to have app shortcuts and home-screen widgets which are kept engaging users. Also, users can add a specialized activity to help in creating shortcuts. This activity is complete with full custom options and confirmation.
Autosizing TextView: Android 8.0 (API level 26) lets you set the size of your text to expand or contract automatically based on the size of the TextView. This means it is much easier to optimize the text size on different screens or with dynamic content.
Color Management: Now apps can take full advantage of new devices which have a wide-gamut colour capable display. To have this feature apps needs to enable a flag in their manifest files per activity and have to load bitmaps with an embedded wide colour profile.
WebView enhancements: Android Oreo also allows the apps to handle errors and crashes. For this Webview multi process mode is enabled by default and added an API for that.
